The other day - I came into work to find a 500 piece
puzzle of the face of Jesus on the desk ---- I'm
not going to get into the details - but it was a
clear metaphor for the ideas in my head - relating
to the objective/and subjective.
What I find - is that as we " ... go through life ... ",
we sometimes find discrepancies between what is
going on in our internal world - the world of
what we think about things and how we react to them -
and the more "real" objective world of things
that go on - at work or at home -- This discrepancy
might relate to our goals and desires about how
we want things to be or they might show up in other
aspects of our internal experience. Most often they
are easy to recognize in relationships - siblings or
parents to children, or partners to each other.
That these discrepancy exist can easily be seen
when we observe normal conversations which generally
involve these differences of view between individuals.
Now sometimes these difference really go unnoticed in our
lives - I think because we are so focused on those
tasks that occupy our lives that we really don't notice
it much - but sometimes - it does become an issue for
certain individuals.
Now, when that happens - something that is often helpful
is a "religious perspective". In standard western thought
this has to do with the idea of God - and in particular
the notion of - One God - from the perspective of which
the notion of a distinction between the objective and
subjective is eliminated. The Buddhist perspective is
that the subjective and objective are illusionary
dualities which we can reach beyond with the aid
of mediation.
But generally we tend to cling to our individual
notions of the way things are - and I think that
in part we do this because - with out it we lose
- the conversation - the need to express these
distinctions of view points to others.
But the "whole" process is very mysterious - for one
thing because we generally don't acknowledge that it's
going on at all - although when we define science -
that is to a large extent what we're talking about -
the effort to view things in an objective way - which
we recognize as an effort.
In Roger Penrose's book "The Road to Reality" - he
makes an effort to show us the great edifice of
human reasoning involved with the effort to
build an objective view of "physical reality".
In a sort of counter-balancing way and along
the same route - Jact Sarfatti - in SuperCosmos -
has tried to demonstrate that - there are really
holes (maybe black?) - in this current edifice of
reason - building our view of what physical
reality is ---- I want to try and weave these
perspectives together in this blog....and in
attempt make both perpectives a little more
accessible.

My Objective
In this blog I am going to try and
combine - two - somewhat different
views of I guess you might call it
applications of differential geometry
to the issues of physical reality and
cosmology ?????
These two views are those expressed in
SuperCosmos - by Jack Sarfatti
and
The Road To Reality - by Roger Penrose
Quite simply the two books although on
closely related subjects are very different
and the simplest way to see that is Jack's
book is way shorter and another obvious difference
in that Roger's book is a bit easier to
understand....
First off I'm going to start with a glossary
of terms that are not clearly defined in
Supercosmos - and relate it back to
discussions in Road to Reality ....
This might make both books a bit more
generally accessible....
Thanks,,,,,, mb
